National Development Bank PLC (NDB) concluded the GHG assessment and verification for the entire organisation for the FY 2021.
The bank engaged the verification body ‘Sri Lanka Climate Fund’ (SLCF) to assess and verify the bank’s Carbon Footprint. SLCF is South Asia’s 1st ISO 14065 Accredited Organisation and SLCF’s accredited certification applies to NDB’s Head Office and network of branches in the island.
Carbon footprinting is an assessment and reporting methodology that enables companies to more accurately calculate Carbon emissions and identify areas for improvement. It has been recognized as a best practice for companies seeking to track their Carbon output in an effort to reduce it. With this first step on the road to being Carbon Neutral, the bank has identified where changes can be made and impact minimised. The Bank also obtained the services of SLCF to train the Bank’s staff in this field including the CEO and The Leadership Team.
Speaking at the ceremony NDB CEO Dimantha Seneviratne said, “NDB is committed to environmental conservation and this certification is a milestone achieved. The bank has already in place eco-friendly practices which has contributed to a substantial reduction of the bank’s Carbon Footprint such as the NDB NEOS App which reduces the need for customers to travel to the bank whilst saving paper, staff buses for employee commuting, replacement of high energy lighting with energy saving lighting, replacing the chillers in the air-conditioning system at the head office with energy efficient chillers and many other measures.”
