12-year-old girl elopes with 32-year-old man Couple taken in for investigations by Saliyawewa Police

A 12-year-old girl and a 32-year-old man with whom she had eloped were taken in for investigations by Saliyawewa Police on Thursday evening (16).   

Investigations revealed that the girl who was a grade seven student of a school in Rajangana area had eloped with the young man after appearing at  the term test that ended at about 12 noon. The young man, a resident of Giribawa area, had taken the girl on a motorcycle to a jungle in Maragahawewa area in Weerapura. 

 
However, an individual who noticed them had provided information to Saliyawewa Police who rushed to the scene immediately, arrested the young man and took charge of the girl.   

The girl stated that she met the young man in response to a call over the phone and went with him. However, the police said they would hold a formal investigation of her statement and her parents were summoned to the police and made inquiries.  The girl was to be referred to the JMO Puttalam Base Hospital and the suspect was produced before the Magistrate.
