A 20.5 per cent increase has been reported in Dengue cases reported this week in comparison to the previous week, the National Dengue Control Unit said. According to the unit, 1,909 suspected dengue cases have been reported from across 26 districts between April 17 to April 23, with an increase of 325 cases from the previous week.
It said 48.5 per cent of the cases were from the Western Province, with 3.9 per cent reported from the Colombo Municipal Council city limits.
Gampaha, Kalutara, Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Kandy districts reported a high number of cases with 55 MOH areas flagged as high-risk areas.
Dehiwala, Piliyandala, Homagama, Kaduwela and Kolonnawa areas were identified as the top high risk areas in the Colombo District, with Attanagalla, Biyagama and Divulapitiya areas also flagged as high risk areas in the Gampaha District. The most number of dengue patients admitted this week was reported from the Negombo District General Hospital.
