22 women among 130 Chinese arrested for involvement in cyber crime

22 women were among the 130 Chinese racketeers arrested for their alleged involvement in online fraud by the Kandy District Crime Investigation Unit during a raid on a five star hotel in Kundasale over the weekend.  

Police said that several others had fled the scene during the raid and evaded arrest,  Police seized 123 laptop computers, 206 smart phones, 20 desktop computers and several other tools and equipment used by them for cyber-crimes.  

 Investigations revealed that they had been occupying 47 rooms in the hotel and that the police had to search every nook and corner of the hotel to track down the suspects hiding there.  
The suspects had failed to show cause for their staying in the hotel to the satisfaction of the police during the preliminary investigations .  

The group of Chinese were to be produced before the Theldeniya magistrate yesterday.  

A police team under OIC Crime Investigation Branch IP Thilak Samaranayake had carried out the raid on instructions of SSP Anuruddha Bandaranayaka and Senior DIG Lalith Pathinayake.
