3.3 magnitude tremor recorded in Buttala

• The tremor originated at a depth of 7km and was felt at around 11.45 a.m. yesterday
• Three earth tremors measuring 3.0, 3.5 and 2.3 magnitude on the Richter scale were recorded in the Buttala and Wellawaya areas on Friday (10) and Saturday (11)

A  3.3 magnitude tremor was recorded last morning in the Buttala- Wellawaya area, the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) said.  

Seismic stations in Buttala, Hakmana, Pallekelle and Buddhangala have recorded these earth tremors at 11.45 a.m.  

They said the tremor originated at a depth of 7km and was felt at around 11.45 a.m. yesterday.  

No damage was reported as a result of the tremor.  

Earlier, three earth tremors measuring 3.0, 3.5 and 2.3 magnitude on the Richter scale were recorded in the Buttala and Wellawaya areas on Friday (10) and Saturday (11).  

Residents of Buttala and Wellawaya were taken by surprise last evening after two earth tremors were felt with windows shattering in some houses.
