30,000 government servants to retire by December 31

Nearly 30,000 government servants will retire by December 31, the Provincial Councils and Local Government State Minister Janaka Wakkumbura said. He stated that even after they retire, there will be no collapse in the public sector.  There are a number of government employees in every organization, such as the security sector, corporations, who will retire on December 31.  

A committee in this regard was appointed with the patronage of the Prime Minister’s secretary.  


Meanwhile, the government will have to pay 85% of the salaries of the 30,000 people who are retiring as their pension, the state minister said.  


“As a government, we are working in every way to reduce the burden on the country and provide support to the people,” he said.  


After 2013, there were a large number of vehicles in local councils without drivers that had not been accounted for in provincial government service, and the state minister stated that they hope to take immediate action in this regard.
