A group of retired Inspector General of Police (IGP) and retired Senior DIGs yesterday voiced their disapproval of the decision made by former Senior DIG Ravi Seneviratne and former Director of Criminal Investigation Department former SSP Shani Abeysekera to join the National People’s Power (NPP).

Addressing a media conference, former IGP Chandra Fernando said that the police department which has a 150 years old illustrious history should not be brought into politics and discredited and the police department itself has been shocked that the same officers who conducted investigations related to the violence during the terror period are now joining the people who are said to be involved in violence.

Retired DIG Palitha Siriwardane addressing the media accused the two main officers of the CID who are responsible for not preventing the Easter Sunday’s attack, had closed the investigation into the 2018 murders of two police officers at Vavnathivu police station, attributing blame to the LTTE instead of arresting Zaharan’s group.

Former Senior DIG in charge of the Eastern Province Edison Gunathilake, retired Superintendent of Police Norton de Silva, retired Senior DIG Sumith Edirisinghe, retired ASP Senaka Kumarasinghe, retired SP Jayantha Herath and several others also addressed the media.
