AI powered Karaneeya Metta Sutta distortion to be probed

• Action taken following complaints of video circulating on Facebook and TikTok

The Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs had requested the Police Cyber Crimes Unit, and Sri Lanka Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) to carry out a probe on the distorting of Karaneeya Metta Sutta.

This action has been taken after the ministry received complaints with regard to a video which is being aired over Facebook and TikTok where it seemed that Sutta had been distorted using Artificial Intelligence. 

Secretary Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs H. M. D. B. Herath said his ministry had received a number of complaints in this regard. 

“We have requested the Police Cyber Crimes Unit and the TRC to carry out a probe on the distorting of Karaneeya Metta Sutta and take action against those responsible,” Mr. Herath said in a statement.
