Addict who spends Rs.80,000 daily on drugs arrested

• He had resorted to robbery to earn money

A drug addict who spends Rs.80,000 a day on drugs and had resorted to robbery to earn money was taken into  custody for his involvement in a theft of commodities including  cigarettes from a grocery store in Bishop Terrace in Laxapathiya in Moratuwa.  

 He had in his possession 6.120 grams of heroin at the time  of arrest. Under interrogation, he stated that he spend about Rs.80,000 a  day on drugs and earned money by selling stolen goods for cheaper  prices.   

Police said the 32-year-old suspect had been involved in a  series of robberies earlier. He was to be produced before the Moratuwa  Magistrate yesterday.  

OIC Moratuwa Police CI Nihal Francis and CI Mamdama are conducting further investigations.
