Jaffna District former Parliamentarian Vijayakala Maheswaran was yesterday released from a case relating to a controversial statement she made in 2018 by Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis ordered to release the former Parliamentarian, taking into account the Attorney General’s advice not to proceed with the case due to insufficient evidence.

The Organized Crimes Prevention Division had filed a B report against Vijayakala Maheswaran before Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly inciting or attempting to incite disaffection through a statement in Jaffna.
Addressing an event held at the Weerasingham Hall in Jaffna on July 2, 2018 former Parliamentarian had allegedly said she would like to see the resurgence of the LTTE.

Filing a B report regarding this incident, the Organized Crimes Prevention Division alleged that Mrs. Maheswaran could be charged under the offences that appears to have been committed under Section 115 and 120 of the Penal Code.

The Organized Crimes Prevention Division informed court that the Police have commenced investigations into this incident pursuant to a complaint made by Sinhala Ravaya General Secretary Ven. Magalkande Sudaththa Thera.
