Anunayake of Malwatta Chapter refutes derogatory statements made against Prelates

Anunayake of Malwatta Chapter and the Karaka Sangha Sabha have refuted the derogatory statement made by Ven. Thenne Pagnananda Thera against the Mahanayake Theras of the Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters. 

Anunayake of the Malwatta Chapter Ven. Dimbulkumbure Wimaladhamma Thera, Chief Likakadhikari Ven. Pahamune Sumangala Thera and the representatives of the Karaka Sangha Sabha told the media yesterday that a Buddhist monk called Ven. Thenne Pagnananda’s had made baseless allegations against Mahanayake of the Malwatta Chapter Ven. Thibbotuwewe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera and the Mahanayakas of Asgriya Chapter Ven. Warakagoda Gnanarathana Thera.


 Ven. Pahamune Sumangala Thera said the Mahanayake Theras had fulfilled their duty to save the nation and the Buddha Sasana in case of any disastrous situation in the country and that they had worked out development plans and policies for the people’s welfare countries and forwarded them to every government. He pointed out that they had even refused to meet politicians who shirked their duty towards the welfare of the people. 
“Mahanayake Theras focused attention only on the welfare of the people without being politically motivated.  The media had given wide publicity to Ven. Mahanayake Theras’ attempt to guide the politicians along the right path. Ven. Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera and the Mahasangha had helped the people destituted in the Tsunami disaster by constructing housing schemes for them. Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters and the Sri Dalada Maligawa donated Rs. 10 million to provide relief aid to the affected people. More than Rs. 05 million was donated to the CORONA relief fund. Ven Mahanayake Thera had recently made a request to the President to release Ven. Siridhamma Thera who has been in custody. ” Ven. Pahamune Sumangala Thera said.


Ven. Anunayake Thera further said the Mahanayka Theras would however refuse the politically motivated public uprisings that disrupted civilian life and violated the moral discipline of the Buddhist monks participating in them.
