A home and home argument between Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella and SJB MP Harsha de Silva occurred in Parliament yesterday.

The exchange of words took place when Kiriella was speaking. Kiriella was going to reveal something about the economy and began saying “Monitory Board officials of Central Bank have informed MP Harsha de Silva… I have got to know that’….”.

Dr. De Silva then objected to the remarks of Kiriella.

“I am not going to quote you. I am only going to say what I have heard. We are doing politics men,” Kiriella told Dr. de Silva at that moment.

Then Kiriella went on to say that Sri Lanka’s foreign reserves have declined to USD 500 million and it will reach zero level in two weeks.

“The President has violated section 27 of the constitution as he is bound by this section to provide essentials to the people without any shortcoming.

Dr. de Silva said he did meet the monetary board of the Central Bank but he cannot reveal anything that they have informed him. “The discussion with Central Bank officials should be an internal matter that should not be revealed,” he later said during his speech in the House.
