Armed gang ransacks Police OIC’s house

An armed gang who arrived in a white van had ransacked the home of a Police Officer ( IP)  of the Kalutara North Police on Saturday afternoon.   Police said the Welipenna Police had launched an investigation following a complaint that a armed gang had broken into the house of the OIC, inspector Nishan Kumara of the minor complaints unit of Kalutara North at Welipenna.  

Police said the incident was reported while the officer (IP) was away on duty. The officer’s wife, daughter and daughter’s friend were in the house when a gang had arrived in a white van claiming to be from the Police Special Task Force.  


According to the complaint, the men had entered the house, threatened the residents with a pistol and asked for a firearm. Then they searched various places and reportedly stayed for about 30 minutes and departed with a sum of Rs 25,000, three mobile phones and two gold rings belonging to the daughter of the IP.  


Investigation revealed that the gang entered the house when the officer was not at home suspecting that there was a firearm in the house.  
The police also suspect that the property was looted as no such firearm was found.  


No suspects were arrested as of Sunday and several police teams are investigating the incident.
