Arrested for reckless lighting of crackers

• The irresponsible behaviour caused injuries to five police officers and two others

Police arrested three suspects yesterday in connection with the haphazard lighting of crackers that caused injuries to seven individuals during a Samagi Jana Balawegaya rally in front of the Kandy Central Market on Monday (09).   

The injured included five police officers and two other persons. Police said one of the police officers had received serious burn injuries.  The suspects were residents of Ampitiya area and they were to be produced in court yesterday.   

Police said the suspects would be charged for causing an accident due to recklessness.   

A police team under OIC Kandy Crime Investigation Branch CI Tilak Samaranayake is conducting further investigations.
