Assault on female worker Court orders psychiatric reports of the couple

Welisara Magistrate, Thusitha Dhammika Uduwavidana, ordered yesterday that psychiatric reports be obtained to assess the mental condition of the company owner and his wife who viciously assaulted a female office worker in Kandana recently.    

The order was granted following a request made by Chief Inspector Gamini Senarath Hewawithana of Kandana Police Station. The request was made due to the severity of the attack, as it deviated from normal human behaviour.   The suspect couple, apprehended on charges of brutally assaulting an office worker, had previously been granted bail of Rs. 2 lakhs each by Welisara Acting Magistrate, Mrs. Dinushi Perera, on October 16th.   
The acting magistrate accepted the new request and instructed the couple’s bailiffs to present them to a specialist psychiatrist at the psychiatric unit of Ragama Hospital, and subsequently submit a medical report on their mental condition to the court.
