At time of death Beggar had Rs.135,000, and five bank pass books

A beggar who died in an accident had been in possession of Rs. 135,000 and  pass books of five bank accounts in his name.

 The deceased was identified as Kadireshan Palamurugan (49) of Udappuwa area who had been knocked down by a motorcycle on Saturday (05) at Anavilundawa on the Puttalam – Chilaw road .


He had been admitted to the Anavilundawa Divisional Hospital and transferred to Chilaw General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday. Police said they searched his bag to find Rs. 135,000 in cash and the bank pass books of his accounts valued at Rs.47,000. Investigations revealed that he had been begging for a long period of time.  A spokesman for the hospital said a decision on the deceased’s funeral was yet to be taken.  Actg. OIC Arachchikattuwa Police IP N. Kirthipala is conducting investigations on the accident.
