Bad weather causes mini floods in Puttalam

Inclement weather conditions which has already caused mini floods in the Puttalam District is expected to do more damage as the atmospheric conditions around Sri Lanka is expected to last for few more days, The Department of Meteorology said yesterday.   


Fairly heavy showers above 75mm are expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central & North-Western provinces during the coming days while rains exceeding 50 km are expected elsewhere.   


Meanwhile more than 1700 people in the Puttalam district had been affected by heavy rain and floods experienced over the last several days.  

Puttalam District Secretary H.M.S.P.Herath said the most affected was the Chilaw division. He said 1198 people in Chilaw divisions were displaced due to floods. He said several main roads and by-roads in several areas had gone under water causing obstruction to transport.  


District Disaster Relief Service Officer D.B.Chaminda Kumara said steps were being taken to provide relief to the affected families.
