Former minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa played a greater role in securing IMF assistance, a SLPP MP and Chairman of Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) Ranjith Bandara said yesterday.
Professor Bandara who came out with this remark at a media conference also highlighted that a certain group was out to destabilize the nation for the last seven years. “People should be aware of this group,” the MP said.
“The opposition is saying that Sri Lanka is not going to get IMF assistance but we are confident that the assistance will come by the third week of this month. The discussions with IMF has come to a final stage and the incumbent President should also be thanked for the progress,” he said.
“The rupee is being stabilized today and the economy is showing signs of recovery, foreign reserves are increased while tourism has picked up,” he also said.
