Beliatta slaughter: Yukthiya operation nothing but a farce: SJB

• Many SJB MPs call for the arrest of top drug dealers through Yukthiya
• Says it looks like there is a political motive behind the Yukthiya operation

Referring to the killing of five people including Ape Jana Bala Party leader Saman Perera in Beliatta yesterday, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Sujith Sanjaya Perera said the Yukthiya operation is proven to be a drama.   
The MP said a large-scale operation would not have been needed if the Acting IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon carried out his duties effectively during his past years. 

“Acting IGP has been in the police for many years and has held prominent posts. He should have played a role in apprehending drug dealers and other offenders during those past years. Yukthiya would not have needed today if the acting IGP and the others carried out their duty effectively,” the MP told the media.   

“It looks like there is a political motive behind the Yukthiya operation,” he added.   

Some SJB MPs who have voiced their opinions on the Yukthiya operation have made somewhat positive remarks about it. Some MPs, including Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, stressed during the weekend that the operation should not be a drama. He said the Acting IGP would not be able to walk along the streets if he turned the Yukthiya operation is not a political drama. Many SJB MPs including Fonseka have been calling for the arrest of top drug dealers through Yukthiya.
