Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP yesterday questioned the alleged purchasing of a double bed and a mattress to the President’s office in Parliament and to conduct a probe on it.

“A private company had paid for this mattress. No one rests in President’s office in the House. Therefore one wonders why a mattress was brought into that office. Speaker must visit the office and see for himself. We will also accompany him,” MP Pathirana said.

“The expenditure in connection with the swearing-in of President Ranil Wickremesinghe had been borne by this same company. This is despite the claim made by the President that the expenses were met by him,” the MP said.
“We have also been told that this company is to be given a 20-acre land in Hambantota,” he said. Chief Government Whip Prasanna Ranatunga who responded said MPs should not waste time on less important matters. “Let’s talk of other important matters in this House,” he said.
