CC calls for information on judges from CJ

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana in a letter addressed to  Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya PC had asked for details on the performance  of judges attached to senior courts.  
The Speaker in his capacity as the Chairman of the  Constitutional Council (CC) in his letter to the Chief Justice has  told him that such details are necessary for the CC when approving the  appointment of Supreme Court judges, President and Judges of the Appeal  Court whenever they are nominated to the respective posts.  

“The CC considers its mandate to grant approval for the  appointment of judges to the Supreme Court under article 41c of the  constitution as a matter of great responsibility and is of the view that  it needs necessary information to carry out its duty in an effective  and efficient manner.
