The Power and Energy Ministry is contemplating to introduce paperless bills and receipts to all customers from January.

The decision was announced following a meeting last morning with the AGMs and DGMs of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said another decision was taken to regulate the fixing of street lamps and operating them.

He stated that outsourced services should be performed by existing staff and that work that cannot be performed by the CEB should be performed with the assistance of local governments.

During the meeting, steps to be taken to minimise expenses at the CEB were discussed.

In addition, instructions were issued to halt the ongoing construction of the CEB’s new headquarters.
