The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) sent back actress Piyumi Hansamali without recording a statement from her over the allegation of acquisition of assets beyond her means.

She appeared before the Illegal Assets Investigations Division of the CID yesterday morning, but she was sent back on the basis that she arrived without her being noticed.

Police spokesman Nihal Thalduwa said though she was asked to come last week, she cited her inability to appear through a lawyer. He said the CID did not notice her to appear yesterday.
Making her remarks to the press, she, however, tried to prove her innocence saying she is not afraid since she had not done anything unlawful. She said she was asked to come last week, but she received the letter only last Saturday.

She said her one pack of beauty products costs Rs.35,000, and she has sold as many as 25,000 packs at the moment.

“Then, one fathom how I earn money. Ours is a vicious society. People are envious when seeing someone using a luxury vehicle,” she said.
