Car driven by cop falls down 150 feet precipice, wife killed

A 34-year-old woman was killed and four others injured after a car driven by a police constable skidded off the road and went down a 150 feet precipice near the 29th kilometre post of Riverston Matale Road in Laggala.  

Police said the accident had occurred when the car was being driven from Matale towards Laggala last evening.  

Five people, including the driver of the car who were injured in the accident, were admitted to the Matale hospital and the constable’s wife died while undergoing treatment.  
The car had been driven by a police constable attached to the Matale Police headquarters and his child, wife’s sister and her child were among the injured.  
The deceased was a resident of Ukuwela.
