It was revealed in Court that the investigation conducted by the Organized Crimes Prevention Division against former Jaffna District Parliamentarian Vijayakala Maheswaran over a controversial statement she made in 2018, is still waiting for Attorney General’s advice regarding the incident, for over five years.
The Organized Crimes Prevention Division informed Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court that they have already forwarded the extracts of the investigations into the incident to the Attorney General but they were yet to receive his legal advice.
Police had filed a B report against Vijayakala Maheswaran before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly exciting or attempting to excite disaffection through a statement in Jaffna.
Meanwhile, Colombo Additional Magistrate Prasanna Alwis issued an order directing the Attorney General to expedite his advice regarding the matter. Further magisterial inquiry is fixed for February 22 next year.
Addressing an event held at the Weerasingham Hall in Jaffna on July 2, 2018, the former Parliamentarian had allegedly said she would like to see the resurgence of the LTTE.
Filing a B report regarding this incident, the Organized Crimes Prevention Division alleged that Mrs. Maheswaran could be charged under the offences that appears to have been committed under Section 115 and 120 of the Penal Code.
The Organized Crimes Prevention Division informed court that the Police have commenced investigations into this incident pursuant to a complaint made by Sinhala Ravaya General Secretary Ven.Magalkande Sudaththa Thera.
