Catholic priest remanded over alleged Rs.8 million fraud

The Colombo Fort Magistrate yesterday remanded a Catholic priest on charges of having cheated a man for Rs. 8 million on a promise of providing a Prado Jeep imported from Japan. 

 Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage remanded Fr. Warnakulasuriya Leslie Fernando till November 22 after being produced before Court by Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau.The complainant claimed that he had given a sum of Rs. 8 million to the priest as he agreed to provide a Prado Jeep. Defence Counsel appearing for the suspect told court that the priest had given all the money to a woman who is currently out on bail over a number of court cases.
