A young man who managed to pass all checkpoints at Bandaranaike International Airport and attempted to board the Chennai bound flight surreptitiously in the early hours of last morning was arrested by Airport police. He was dressed in a short pair of trousers, a shirt and wearing slippers.

The 23 year old suspect was a resident of Grand Pass who had been living with his father in Chennai and gone abroad twice.

Security officers of SriLankan Airlines on duty had checked him to find that he was not in possession of any travel documents or a boarding pass and handed him over to police.

The police summoned the suspect’s brother and inquired about him to find the suspect was under psychiatric treatment but had not been on medication for about a month.

IP Fernando, Sergeant 38226 Disanayaka and PC 85188 Dilanga are conducting further investigations on the instructions of OIC Airport Police Elmo Malcolm Path.

They said the suspect would be produced before Negombo magistrate and referred to a psychiatrist after obtaining a court order.
