Chief of National Intelligence Kulatunga retires

Major General (Rtd) Ruwan Kulatunga, the Chief of National Intelligence (CNI), has retired from his position on December 31, 2024. 
Responsible for overseeing all intelligence agencies within the country, the CNI operates under the Ministry of Defence.  Kulatunga assumed his role as the senior intelligence officer in 2019 and has been instrumental in enhancing the capabilities of the National Intelligence apparatus.

While in the Army, he played a crucial role in all operations against the LTTE until the decisive victory of the last humanitarian mission in May 2009. His bravery on the battlefield was honored with the Rana Sura Medal. He retired from military service on July 5, 2019, and subsequently served as the CNI until his departure from the position.
Meanwhile, Major General (Rtd) Ruwan Wanigasuriya has been appointed as the new CNI to succeed him.
