Clash between estate labourers, two arrested

Bagawanthalawa Police arrested two individuals who  assaulted the estate workers who resorted to trade union action  yesterday on several demands, including a primary school for Campion area  in Bagawantalawa.  The strikers said their children had to walk more than five kilometres to the primary school in Bagwanthalawa after the Tamil Maha  Vidyalaya was upgraded as a national school and the primary section was shifted.  

 They pointed out that building facilities to house a  primary school was available in the estate, and that it was now being  used temporarily as teacher’s quarters of the national school.  

Police said the clash had occurred when a group of members of a main trade union intervened to resolve the strike.
