Conch shells including a Valampuri seized in Madampe

Several rare conch shells including a Valampuri was seized and a suspect who had them in his possession to sell them for Rs.1.5 million was arrested in Madampe during a joint raid by the STF and the Wildlife Conservation Officers last morning.   

Wildlife officers said the stock of conch shells included King Conch Sea shells, and Chiragra Spider conch shells and a Valampuri.   

The STF and the wildlife officers had carried out the raid on information received from Air Force intelligence.   

The suspect was released on police bail pending legal action against him.   

 A STF team under Commanding Officer of Puttalam STF Unit CI Pushpakumara and a team of wildlife officers under Karuwalagaswewa Range Wildlife Conservator D.Ramasinghe had carried out the raid.
