Claiming that corrupt and racist politicians have opted not to contest this year’s General Election to evade defeat, NPP member Bimal Ratnayake said yesterday it was a great victory secured by the NPP even before the General Election victory to make sure that such politicians have not even become candidates at this year’s elections.

He told media after handing over the nomination list for the NPP’s national list that the NPP must be thankful to the people for electing Anura Dissanayake to presidency, which ultimately ended the politics of the corrupt and racial politicians.

“The people who voted Anura Kumara Dissanayake to presidency did a great thing by removing the corrupt politicians from politics. These politicians have decided not to contest to evade the imminent defeat,” he said.
Ratnayake said the NPP will launch its election campaign soon after handing over the nominations adding that a meeting with all candidates has been scheduled for October 11 to brief the candidates.

He said a series of meetings attended by the President will also be held island wide.
