Couple arrested for assault of woman in viral video released on bail

• The woman who was assaulted had not complained to the police about the assault due to the fact that the suspect couple were relatives

A 36-year-old couple, husband and wife,   arrested by the Kandana Police after a video showing a woman being assaulted  released on Rs 200,000 sureties.  Police said the incident took place in a private institution at Aniyakanda Road, Nagoda in Kandana on October 3.  

The police launched investigations on the basis of information received on the police emergency number 119.  
Accordingly, the suspects were arrested at Lipton Road, Nagoda by the Kandana Police last night.  

Investigations revealed that the arrested suspect is a close relative of the woman who was assaulted.  

The suspected husband and wife have been running a business of trading goods online in the Aniyakanda area, and the investigation has revealed that the woman who was assaulted had been staying at this relative’s house for about 3 years and working in the relevant company.
