The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s court yesterday permitted former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to travel abroad from January 20 to January 31. The Court was informed by CID that the Attorney General has given his consent for this purpose. The Court had earlier issued an order preventing former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, MP Namal Rajapaksa and 15 others from leaving the country regarding the mob attack that took place at Temple Trees and Galle Face on May 9.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage had ordered to impose a travel ban against former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Parliamentarians Namal Rajapaksa, Johnston Fernando, Sanath Nisantha, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Sanjeewa Edirimanna, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, C.B. Ratnayake, Sampath Athukorala, Kanchana Jayaratne, Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon, Mahinda Kahandagama, Renuka Perera, Amitha Abeywickrama, Dilith Fernando and Pushpalal.
The Fort Magistrate had made this order pursuant to a request made by the Attorney General appearing for the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), conducting investigations into the Galle Face attacks.
