Against the backdrop of immoral activities under the garb spa treatment, Sri Lanka Spa Association urged the government to expedite the promulgation of new regulations to develop the country as a source of employment generation and foreign exchange earning while dealing with unscrupulous practices.

Association’s President Prasanna Munasinghe told a press conference that the Ayurveda Department did away with registration of spa centres in 2019 and it led to the mushrooming of places that offer socially immoral services in the guise of spa treatment.

He said even the professional spa treatment providers had been left in the lurch in the absence of legal identification.

“We become victims of police raids. The police don’t differentiate between the professional ones  and wrong doers. We are the professional people who provide spa treatment. We urge the government to regulate spa treatment. We are now in the process of drafting these regulations. The matter has been brought to the notice of President Ranil Wickremesinghe,” he said.
