Death of businessman in Thalangama: Police suspect he was murdered to steal his belongings

Police investigations into the death of businessman Roshan Wanninayaka from Wellampitiya, suspect that the businessman was murdered to steal his belongings, including credit cards. 

The 49-year-old businessman who was missing for the past few days was found dead in a swimming pool of a three-storey building being constructed in Thalangama.
The vehicle belonging to the businessman was recovered from a house in Negombo following the investigation.


Police said investigations revealed that a couple who had brought the vehicle to Negombo has reported to have left the country


Police said that the death may have happened on the night of  January 30, and that the suspected couple had gone abroad on the following day.


It was reported that four credit cards in the wallet of the businessman were missing. Initial investigations found that five air tickets have been booked using them to travel to Indonesia. It has also been revealed that goods worth around Rs. 500,000 were purchased from a shopping mall at Katunayake Airport using a credit card of the businessman.


The businessman who owns a number of textile shops was found dead in the swimming pool on Thursday after his sister lodged a complaint with the Wellampitiya Police on January 30 that her brother was missing.


The Colombo Crimes Division has taken over the investigation from the Thalangama Police.
