Deceased MP acquitted in murder case

  • The accused who had on October 10, 2000 shot seven individuals and caused injuries stood indicted with unlawful assembly and attempted murder

Late Ratnapura District MP Ranjith Soysa and two others who stood indicted with attempted murder and causing gunshot injuries to seven individuals at Alpitiya in Godakawela were acquitted by Ratnapura High Court Judge L.K. Mahinda on Thursday .   


Former Chairman of Godakawela Pradeshiya Sabha Priyantha Bandara and Kahawa Dadallage Nanda Kumara were the other two accused.   


The accused who had on October 10, 2000 shot seven individuals and caused injuries stood indicted with unlawful assembly and attempted murder.

   
Soysa died of illness later.   

Defence Counsel Attorney at Law Chandana Atukorala moved for an acquittal without calling evidence from the accused, in view of the evidence already before court. The High Court Judge who upheld the submissions of the defence acquitted the accused.
