Dengue cases in nine months surpass tally of cases in 2020, 2021

  • Colombo District records 15,837cases

The dengue cases logged in the nine months of this year have already surpassed the total number of cases reported for the years 2020 and 2021. 

According to the Epidemiology Unit, over 74,000 cases have so far been reported in 2023 while the tally of cases reported for 2020 and 2021 years stood at 68,280.  
As of November 25, a total of 74,804 cases have been reported in 2023, with the highest number being from the Colombo District, which stood at 15,837.  
The Western Province has recorded 35,337 cases, the highest province-wise, while the month of November has also logged 6,316 dengue cases.  
According to health officials, dengue cases are pegged to increase owing to the prevailing rainy conditions.  


In this context, people are urged to keep their surroundings clean and destroy mosquito breeding places in order to keep dengue at bay.
