Dog executioner netted, remanded till February 3

The woman arrested on suspicion of strangling a dog to death was  produced before the Mankulam Magistrate and remanded till February 3.
The  48-year-old suspect was a resident of Chethiyakulama in Mankulam,  Mullaitivu. Police said she had tied a rope around the dog’s neck and  strangled it to death.
Police arrested her following a complaint from the dog’s owner, who  alleged that the suspect had killed the animal. Investigations revealed  that the dog had often bitten goats in a neighbouring house, leading to  animosity between the two families.
The police who investigated the complaint had referred it to the  Mediation Board, but the two parties failed to reach a compromise.
Meanwhile, the owner of the goats had tethered the dog to a mango tree, resulting in its strangulation.
Mankulam Police are conducting further investigations.
