Don’t prepare for Teacher exams after attending tuition classes: Minister warns

Graduate teacher candidates were told not to attend extra tuition classes and prepare for the teacher exam, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.   

While addressing an event held at the Ministry yesterday, he said the wider educational transformation process that goes beyond the education reform, does not hope to produce a group of people who memorize everything taught and write answers in the examination papers.   

He said this while commenting on an advertisement published that tutorial lessons are conducted aiming at the candidates who are appearing for the graduate teacher examination to be held in March this year.   

“Undergraduate students who aspire to be teachers should be able to think, understand and grasp something quickly, such as solving a simple math problem and answering a general question.”   

A group of people who seek assistance in extra classes and sit for the teacher recruitment examinations will not contribute to enhance the skills of the children.   
“Events such as these underscore the need for a comprehensive educational transformation process,” the minister reiterated.   

He also said that this is not a tough and competitive exam. The examination is to be conducted by the examination department for those who had got past the relevant age limit and are expected to join as teachers among the graduates working in the government service as development officers.   

Therefore, the minister said that he expects that the candidates will go to the exam hall on the scheduled date and face the test with self belief and confidence without attending tuition classes.
