Drug trafficker arrested at airport

 A suspect involved in drug trafficking and wanted for attempting to knockdown a police STF officer at a check point was taken into custody by Immigration and Emigration officers at Katunayake airport when he arrived from Dubai on Tuesday night (27).   

 He had been subject to a travel ban in connection with drug trafficking but he had got it suspended through court action.   

About two months ago the suspect Nadeem Baziq Ali (23), had attempted to knock down a police STF officer who ordered him to halt the motorcar and fled from the scene and gone abroad.  

The Wellawatta police had reported the incident to court and imposed a travel ban on the suspect. Since he was wanted by the Wellawatta police for further investigations.   

 He was arrested on arrival to the country on Tuesday midnight.
