Election authorities bust presidential candidate’s dinner party in Anuradhapura

• Police seize food prepared for invitees, and a stock of liquor bottles
• Organisers’ request to change venue turned down by police

The election authorities blocked a dinner party arranged by  a presidential candidate at a leading hotel in Anuradhapura yesterday  for professionals in the area, a source said.   

The Anuradhapura District election authorities received a  complaint about a dinner to be hosted by this candidate for  professionals and academics in the area.   

A team of police officers rushed to the scene on direction  by the election office and seized food prepared for invitees. Also, they  seized a stock of liquor bottles. 

The organisers of the party sought permission to shift the venue, but the police did not accede to.
