Security for several hotels in Kandy providing accommodation to Israeli tourists has been stepped up by the police.
Police have taken steps to obtain daily reports on foreign tourists seeking accommodation in hotels in the Kandy Police Division as well.

The special security plan has been implemented on the instructions of SSP Kandy Division Anuruddha Bandaranayaka. He said in addition to the security provided to the hotels, continual police patrols were in operation.

Meanwhile, security in Dambulla, a nerve centre of tourism in Sri Lanka, and its environs was beefed up yesterday morning by Dambulla Police.

Matale SSP (Senior Superintendent of Police) Rohana Gamage said a special security plan was implemented in view of the heavy influx of foreign tourists in the area. He said security was provided to Dambulla Rajamaha Vihara, Uyanwatta Rajamaha Vihara, tourist hotels in Kandalama, Eraula, Inamaluwa, and Dambulla Town.
The SSP said continual search operations including strict checks on vehicles and suspicious individuals were going on.

It is significant that the foreign tourists expressed satisfaction about the ongoing security arrangements. They had even taken photos of police officers on duty.
