The Cabinet yesterday discussed at length the evacuation of Sri Lankan workers from Israel if an emergency arises due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, according to informed sources.

Reports state that there are currently more than 8000 Sri Lankans in Israel.

“Although the matter has been discussed at length, no final decision has been made, and the decision will be taken after monitoring the situation on the ground in the conflict area,” said an official.

Unofficial sources have confirmed that one Sri Lankan national was killed, and two others are missing during the latest round of conflict in Israel.

According to the Sri Lankan embassy in Israel, two Sri Lankans have been confirmed missing since the conflict broke out last Saturday. “Until we see the remains of the Sri Lankan lady who is presumed dead, we can’t officially determine whether she is dead or not,” said the official..
