Bus fares on all expressways in the country will be reduced by 10 percent from last night, Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardena said.  He said the National Transport Commission (NTC) will take a decision with regard to bus fares on normal routes shortly.  “The annual license fee collected from expressway buses was reduced to Rs. 1,296,000. “Earlier, it was more than Rs.3.3 million due to the increase in fuel prices and bus fares,” the minister said.

Gunawardane expressed these views regarding a discussion held over the fare revision of buses operating on the Colombo, Matara, and Galle expressways. The discussion was held at the information department.

During the discussion, it was decided to convert semi-luxury bus services, which operated on Galle Road between Colombo and Kataragama, to a normal service.
Buses operating as semi luxury will operate under normal service in the future, and the bus fare on that route will be reduced  to Rs.1,117. Earlier, the bus fare was Rs.1,541, the Minister said.
