The fate of the local government election totally depends on the judicial order, a government Minister said.
Minister Prasanna Ranatunga who was speaking during a meeting of SLPP candidates in Kurunegala and Puttalam District said no one can clearly say whether the local polls will be held as it has to be decided upon by the Supreme Court.

“Some questioned me as to whether the Local Government election will be held or postponed.

Neither I nor our party general secretary can answer that question. There is a court case pending on the Local Government election. The final decision on the local government poll will be made accordingly,” Ranatunga said.   Also he accused that it was the Jathika Jana Balawegaya (JJB) who was behind the violence of May 9 2022. One of those engaged in violence in Minuwangoda addressed the JJB rally in the area recently. JJB Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s son was working for Mihin Lanka some years ago. Dissanayake saw to it that his son gets employment at SriLankan Airlines. There is nothing wrong with that as he had done it for his son as a father. However, the issue is that he used other youth to fulfill their vested interests,” he said.
