Father who allegedly raped his daughter arrested after nine years

An individual who had raped his elder daughter nine years ago when she was 13 years of age was arrested last Thursday, the police said.

Her mother had deserted the family and eloped with another man. Her father had raped her at times after her sister went to bed. Her grandmother who came to know about the incident had come to live with them and provide protection to the two girls.

Later, she was married on a proposal brought by her relatives, but her husband had suspected her to have had sexual relations with another man before marriage. This created a family dispute that compelled her to disclose the incident.

OIC Dambagalla Police Chief Inspector Ginige said the 49-year-old suspect was arrested during investigations of their complaint. He was to be produced before Siyambaladuwa Magistrate yesterday.
