Filing B report against lawyers by Keselwatta Police: IGP calls report from WP Senior DIG

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has called for a report from the Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province about the actions of Keselwatta Police for filing a B report before Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court against a group of lawyers.  

The Keselwatta Police filed a B report against a group of lawyers who organised a protest on January 18, condemning the Attorney General’s alleged interference with the judiciary.  
According to the B report, Keselwatta police alleged that a group of lawyers including Senior Counsel Gunaratne Wanninayake, Nuwan Bopage and Senaka Perera had organised a protest by violating Election Laws and provisions of National Thoroughfares Act.  

Accordingly, police said the IGP has called for a report from Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon for filing the B report without the knowledge of the IGP C.D.Wickramaratne or the Legal Division of the Police Headquarters.
