Uncertainty looms on the appointment of MP Mayantha Dissanayake as the new Chairman of Public Finance Committee as the MP saying he has no issue in resigning from the post in the midst of Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) insisting on appointing MP Harsha de Silva to the post.

It was reported that Dissanayake was appointed as the Chairman while MP de Silva cried foul play by the government. “ I must have been a headache to the government as I did not allow any financial regulations to go through without investigating them closely,” de Silva said.

“Government has exposed itself through this action as institutions such as IMF and World Bank will not get to know how the government works.” He added.

Daily mirror reliably learnt that Dissanayake has expressed that he has no issue in resigning paving the way for de Silva but it all depends on the Speaker. “ It is up to the Speaker to decide on the matter ,” sources who are close to Dissanayake said.

Earlier it was reported that Dissanayake had refused the request made by both Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa and the Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella to resign from the post.
