Five-year-old boy killed when air rifle misfired

 A five-year-old boy from Detagamuwa in Kataragama who received serious injuries on Wednesday (16) when an air rifle misfired, succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of last morning at the Karapitiya teaching hospital in Galle.

 He had been admitted to Debarawewa Base Hospital and transferred to Hambantota general hospital and from there to Karapitiya teaching hospital. He had undergone an urgent surgery at the Karapitiya hospital.  


 The victim Nilesh Thejas Asith of Detagamuwa colony was a year one student of Detagamuwa Vidyalaya.

   
 His father stated to police that his 18-year-old brother living in the adjacent house often used to play with the little boy and that the air rifle had gone off accidentally due to mishandling.   


 The Father’s brother Kavindu Methmal was taken in for questioning on suspicion by the Kataragama police.
