Foreigner among six hospitalized due to Steuart hotel Fire

Six individuals including a foreigner and five police personnel were hospitalized after a fire broke out at the Steuart Hotel in the Colombo Fort area last evening, according to the police.  

According to the police media division, the six individuals who experienced breathing difficulties caused by the heavy smoke were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment.  

The hospital sources told Daily Mirror that the condition of the admitted is not serious.  

Meanwhile, an official from the Colombo Fire Brigade told Daily Mirror that the blaze was reported on the seventh floor of the hotel on Chatham Street.  

“Twelve fire trucks and 41 officers were dispatched to the scene to bring the fire under control,” the official said.  

The firefighters were able to completely extinguish the fire. However, authorities are yet to assess the extent of the damage caused by the fire. Further, the cause of the fire is also yet to be ascertained.
